Watchmen (2009) Movie Discussion

Let's talk about the movie Watchmen!

This is not actually a review about the movie but the thoughts that pop after watching it. First thing first, I think the movie is about how humanized and flawed superheroes are. We meet some supers that are awkwardly losers in real life. Rorschach is a criminal who has no identity without his mask. Night-Owl is a super sweet guy who is not successful in his career and love life. Heck most of them wear the mask just because it looks badass. They started as vigilantes who wanted to fight street crimes. Small individuals who stand up for small people. Freaks. People who were then rejected by the society itself. What cool is, then we're introduced to these freaks.
The Comedian. A barbarian who knows nothing but violence and chaos. Adrian, the smartest guy on earth, and Dr. Manhattan, a physicist who became the victim of some experiments, the two who actually have superpowers. Night-Owl is super rich, Laurie is just pretty and needs compassion, and Rorschach the detective/executioner who has a somehow-magical mask. Watchmen talks about how broken they are and how black and white overlap for them all.
Snyder, our freaking director, has a good job telling the story with a slow pace in a 3 hours movie. That's not sarcasm, although sometimes the narrative or slow-mo is a little bit too much. This is not a movie for everyone, obviously, which is that's why I like it. I think this is not a movie for people who seek straightforward entertainment. The movie is about experiencing the story itself and let your soul floats through it. It's personal and kind of spiritual.
I love the writing. I'm spoiled by the color grade. The score is top notch and the visual has its own aesthetic style. The comic inside the movie is unique too. Let's think about it! It's about a man who has a calculation on how his city will be destroyed and then he tries to save it but ends up hurting it by himself. A mistake with a good intention. A man who learns about it and it's too late, he's consumed by the darkness formed as zombie pirates that he used to escape. It's the same like Rorschach vs Adrian who has two different approaches to world peace, but then, like the man in the comic,   their action is judged as wrong. It's about justice and the METHODS to pursue it, I think. Adrian won, for now. Rorschach died but his journal is waiting to be resurrected as the evidence of Adrian's method to save the world. It's the gray area. Our characters are confused with the overlapping black and white. Night-Owl who disagrees with Adrian's way ends up being the part of its world peace anyway, enjoying it. Is it wrong? Is it right?
Our people deserve peace, indeed. But just in case somebody is going to take it again, we need some people to watch from the dark.

The Watchmen.
